Ntelezi Msane Heritage Site in Mthwalume
Learn the origins of the Zulu kingdom, The centre’s founding story of the 1906 Mthwalume Poll Tax uprising, as well as the origins of the Zulu Kingdom and expeditions of King Shaka on the KZN South Coast are all brought to life through traditional music, war cries and dance during a centre tour.
Lake Eland Game Reserve
Covering an impressive 2500 hectares with diverse ecosystems of bushveld, grassland, coastal forest, wetland, and wild game, this natural landscape offers a place of peace and tranquillity.
Brothers Eric and Trevor Dunstone purchased the land for conservation and founded the reserve in 2003. A large lake shaped like the eland, common in bushman paintings give the reserve its name “Lake Eland” in honour of this magnificent antelope and its symbolic meaning to the San.
Riverbend Crocodile Farm in Southbroom
This family owned and run business, established in 1981, has entertained more than 2.5 Million people since it’s inception. Established as the first commercial crocodile farm in South Africa, Riverbend continues to diversify. Now also home to one of the finest selections of wine in the region and an art gallery, which is home to the works of leading South African artists.
If you are looking to entertain the kids, learn about crocodiles, buy curios or eat something then Riverbend Crocodile Farm, in Southbroom, on the beautiful South Coast is the place to be.
The Red Desert near Port Edward
Port Edward’s unusual claim to fame is the Red Desert. The world’s smallest desert. This lies some 10 kilometres west of the town and is only 200 m in diameter and 11 hectares in its entirety. Best described as a miniature version of the Arizona Desert, the man high hills and valleys of naked red soil bare stark contrast to to the surrounding lush and tropical vegetation. Archeological artefacts going back millions of years can be found and the locals are pleased this is now an internationally protected heritage site.

The Margate Country Club hosts one of the finest golf courses on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal (East Coast of South Africa).
