Typically during mid-May and late November Humpback whales and southern right whales migrate to warmer waters for breeding and calving. These whales travel up to the north to reach breeding grounds and the perfect waters to welcome their new babies to the world around the months of May and July, between August and November you will witness travelling back down to the south, back to their usual homes during these months you will witness some of the most amazing things, like mother’s playing with their calves, whales of all shapes and sizes reaching for the sky by jumping out the water and big males trying to impress the females, now the question is where are some of the ideal spots for you to observe this beautiful phenomenon? We have an answer for you.

When you visit the South Coast of KZN, whale watching can be beautiful, relaxing and fulfilling to watch on our stunning coastline. Luckily for you, we are absolutely spoiled for choice on the coast when it comes to the best humpback as well as southern right whale watching spots.

Uvongo Beach, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa:

You have a lot of other options, some that feature at Uvongo while you are enjoying one of the Pavilions delicious meals or the Ice Cream shops treats, or even after grabbing a cup of delicious coffee or treat from The Coffee Cave in Uvongo. You will be able to see a selection of whales, usually most notable during the early hours of the morning around 07:00 to 11:00, but you can of course still see them every now and again throughout the course of the day!

Other less popular whale watching spots is definitely The Ramsgate Rambles, imagine this, surrounded by nature, hearing the ocean and birds and other creatures on our stunning KZN coastline while spotting whales so close to the shore you can make them out as if they were right in front of you! This is a must watch spot, for sure.
