The KZN South Coast boasts over 58 beautiful beaches, with 7 proudly awarded Blue Flag status for 2025. While the warm Indian Ocean makes swimming possible year-round, some beaches are temporarily closed to swimmers during the winter months. This is due to the annual Sardine Run, a natural spectacle that draws massive shoals of sardines — and with them, a frenzy of marine life including whales, dolphins, sharks, and seabirds.
