Umtentweni Beach is a cozy place where locals and holidaymakers spend time, usually for a nice quiet outing or family picnic. It isn’t extremely well known so often in the off season it’s very quiet and even in the holiday time it’s not the most crowded. Measures are taken to ensure the cleanliness of the beach and its surrounding area, many signs are put up providing safety information about the local ocean life and currents making this shoreline wildlife friendly, there are tentative lifeguards on duty with first aid equipment ready and on standby and the water quality is always kept at a good, healthy level which ensures the safety of swimmers.

There are many different rock formations on this beach, ranging in a large variety of interesting shapes and sizes with many little corners and gaps for cute sea creatures to hide in, it’s always fun to take a stroll on these enormous stones and explore the unknown!

Given its unique formation, Umtentweni Beach is ideal for surfers, many local surfers from old to young gather on the sands on a weekly sometimes even daily basis to catch some waves, these waves aren’t only perfect for surfing, swimming on this beach is an absolute pleasure, with barely any current on most days and it’s waters being crystal clear the majority of the time, the golden sands are great for sun bathing and collecting sea shells!

Quite close to the main entrance of the beach is the sweetest little granny pool, its shallow and clean waters makes it a great play area for younger kiddies who haven’t learnt how to swim yet but don’t want to miss out on any of the beach day fun, this pool is also best suited for the elderly as well, that is why it was named a ‘granny’ pool, because of these unique characteristics. Close to the large parking area there is a jolly tuck shop which serves ice cold cool drinks, crispy chips, sweet treats and yummy ice creams! Perfect for hot summer days after a good swim! Or when you’re just looking for something to nibble on.

Lovely communal braai areas are everywhere close to the beach front, they are well kept, always clean and built-in tables are found around each braai spot. There are public restrooms and showers close by the restrooms have a changing area, the toilets are always clean, fresh and functioning as well as running fresh water to wash your hands, the couple of public showers are kept in good condition and also run on fresh water.

There are many beautiful artworks made out of tile on this beach, it’s always a fun challenge to try and find them all when enjoying a family meal in the shaded picnic area. There is an abundance of shade and lots of seating, these picnic areas are great for the big families and the small ones, too.

With the smell of a good braai, the laughter of kids playing and the sound of the ocean in the background, this beach is guaranteed to give you good memories to last a lifetime! Making you come back for even more.
