This picturesque hike is well-known among runners for its ease, views, family-friendly
atmosphere and accessibility. Starting at St Michael’s Beach, a firm-favourite with all
beachgoers and running along the coastline, you will see both golden sand and colourful rock
formations until you end at Uvongo Beach which has a surprise waiting for you… A waterfall!
Yes, you read that right, a waterfall! Uvongo main beach is located at the mouth of the Uvungu
river which makes its entrance over a rocky ledge and cascades down 23 metres before landing
in the Uvongo lagoon. The scenic waterfall is surrounded by fascinating rock escarpments and
banana trees, making it the perfect spot for a quick selfie after the walk!
That coupled with the fact that the hike is completely free, has minimal elevation, is rated easy
and takes just an hour and 15 minutes to complete, why wouldn’t you add it to the list of things
you must do on your next holiday to the South Coast? Better yet, use the walk to warm you up
just before jumping into the one of the beautiful beaches that await you on either end!
Both St Michaels Beach and Uvongo Beach feature swimming pools, tidal pools and of course
the ocean itself that are just waiting for you to enjoy! The average water temperature of both
beaches is roughly 25/26°C, the perfect temperature to cool off in! Plus both beaches offer
restaurants, shops, lifeguards during peak hours and friendly staff, eager to make your
experience a great one.

Rated as one of the best things to do in both Uvongo and St Michaels, we highly recommend
this activity for all beach loving families!
