Best Beaches on the South Coast
One of the most amazing things the South Coast, KZN has to offer is the wide range of beaches available and with the highest number of recognised Blue Flag beaches in KZN you know the beaches available are of the highest quality. A Blue Flag beach is a beach that meets the standards set by the Foundation for Environmental Education for environmental management including sampling water quality. There are currently 5 blue flag beaches on the South Coast, with another 7 on the pilot list for the program and at least another 50 beaches. The World’s Smallest “Desert”
The KwaZulu Natal, South Coast is not only home to amazing world-standard beaches but the South Coast is also home to one of the world’s smallest deserts. The Red Desert Nature Reserve located only 10 km outside of Port Edward features this desert measuring just 200m in diameter and 11 hectares. So-called the Red Desert due to the beautiful red cour of the sand which comes from the iron content in the sand, this attraction is on top of a hillside overlooking the Mtamvuna River an area with an abundance of wildlife. While there is some argument to be made for the fact that the area has too much rainfall to be considered a true desert this natural reserve offers a wonderful hiking trail and mounting bike trails. Please note there are no built facilities.
The “Golf Coast” of South Africa
While beaches, mountain biking or hiking trails may not be the ideal holiday destinations for you, maybe one of the beautiful golf courses along the KZN South Coast would be the better vacation destination for you.
